Mayor's Message August 2022

Mayors Message

The weather still says summer, but everybody is getting ready for the changes that come with fall. The pool season is ending this month, school starts on August 23, and we are having our last Friday Night Uptown on August 5th, and right before that, on August 2nd is National Night Out!

Before you have to start juggling homework and activity schedules, take the kids over to Garrette Park and try out the new gravity rail ride. It’s a fun one, and a great addition to that beautiful park.

Fall in West Jefferson means three things; the Ox Roast over Labor Day weekend, and the Fall Festival at the end of October and football! Both the West Jefferson Community Association, and the Fall Festival Committee could use some more volunteers, if you are looking for a wonderful activity or two to participate in behind the scenes! Watch the new sign for meeting times and places. As for football, the first varsity home game is August 19.

Make some great memories this month!

New Electronic Sign Lights Up on Main St.

The new electronic sign is installed and is the Village’s newest method to transmit important information. With screens on both sides, the sign is easily viewed by passing motorists and pedestrians alike.

Public Service director John Mitchell explained that when the former sign broke, we were left with the choice to either replace it, or do without. He said that the screen components had become obsolete, so repairs were no longer an option.

The new sign is lit by LED lights, and uses cellular technology for receiving the information, which will make it possible to update from home if needed. Questions? Call Jill at (614) 379-5234.

Water Tower Renovation

The renovations on the South Water Tower continue, but should be done by early August. Both the interior and exterior were cleaned and sandblasted and are being primed and painted. Soon, the West Jefferson logo will be applied. Once that work is complete, the tower will be refilled.

Unlike when the Village experienced water disruptions when the tower was emptied, refilling the tower should go smoothly, however, the process will be closely monitored, and residents alerted to any issues.

Water Plant Supervisor Kyla McKee has been working diligently to keep water flow from the smaller North Tower at an adequate level to supply the Village. She said that although supply has never been a problem, pressure concerns had to be managed.
